In a seemingly innocent and funny video posted online, a little girl is seen vlogging about what her mother asked her to do if someone were to call while she was away. In the short video, the girl shows the computer screen and says, “Ganito lang yan guys oh, ‘pag may tumawag, hang up niyo lang and submit [Just like this guys, when someone calls, you’ll just hang up and submit].” Shortly after, the mother of the child is briefly shown, and the little girl jokingly said to her, “Mama, sahuran mo ako ah [Mama, give me salary].”
After this, a customer actually called, and the girl did what she was instructed to do: she hung up the call and submitted it, as her mother had told her to do while she was busy making her coffee.
While the video was made by an innocent girl, others did not agree with what the mother had her daughter do because it promotes dishonesty in the workplace.
Many do not agree with what the mother did because, not only is she passing her work to her child, but she is also compromising the work ethics of maintaining client privacy. Some have even said that, with this video going viral, there is a possibility she could lose her job for taking advantage of the work-from-home setup for agents. According to some comments, this act can also backfire on other work-from-home employees because the integrity of their work is being neglected.
However, due to the nature of the work involving just accepting calls, other social media users pointed out that this is probably not business process outsourcing (BPO). Experienced employees shared that such practices would not be accepted in BPO, as management is very strict and closely monitors the progress of each agent.
While videos like this, featuring little kids imitating the work of their parents, can be entertaining, social media users are also reminding parents to be responsible with their work and to be role models for their kids in teaching integrity. It is important to maintain honesty and morals, even when no one is watching.
