G-DRAGON reportedly reclaims his screen name’s trademark from YG Entertainment

Official documents confirm that K-pop idol G-DRAGON regained the trademark for his name on May 17.

Four days later, on May 21, the trademark was transferred to his current agency, Galaxy Corporation.

Fans rejoiced with this great news and took to X (formerly Twitter) to celebrate.

Companies frequently register trademarks for the names of their artists. This is the reason why, after leaving their company, many groups encounter the problem of not being able to continue as their original group name.

Since the star was given the stage name “G-DRAGON” upon his debut, YG Entertainment is the owner of the trademark for it. As of October 12, 2023, YG Entertainment has successfully finished the applications necessary to renew the “G-DRAGON” trademark.

Then after being cleared of all drug-related charges, BIGBANG member G-Dragon left YG Entertainment.

The name ‘G-DRAGON’ was derived from the artist’s name Ji Yong. “G” for the first part of his name “Ji” and the “yong” which means “Dragon” in Korea.
