Japanese band RADWIMPS rocks Filipino fans’ world with epic debut concert in Manila

RADWIMPS, the Japanese-based rock band famous for their beautiful theme songs in ‘Your Name’ and ‘Weathering with You,’ came for the very first time to grace their Filipino fans with their world tour, “The Way You Yawn, and the Outcry of Peace,” which was held at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on May 1st and produced by PULP Live World.

The show started with them playing the songs ‘Lights Go Out’ and ‘Never Ever Ender,’ followed by ‘Drama Grand Prix’ and ‘September-san.’

Just as Yusuke, RADWIMPS’ bassist, said, “Gawin nating epic ang concert na ito! [Let’s make this concert epic!],” the band surely delivered on their promise, creating the most memorable experience for their Filipino fans. With their legendary performance throughout the show, fans couldn’t help but jam with their favorite band, with many jumping out of their seats, truly enjoying the experience to the fullest.

Fans were also delighted to hear messages from Yusuke and Akira (rhythm guitarist) in Tagalog, expressing their genuine gratitude to their Filipino fans who made their performance in the Philippines possible. Yujiro (vocalist and guitarist) also shared their experience exploring the city and meeting fans along the way. He expressed amazement at hearing fans speak fluently in Japanese, which motivated the band even more to ensure that fans would enjoy the show they had prepared for them.

And because the show is not complete without playing their famous songs, RADWIMPS treated their fans by playing songs from their ‘Your Name’ album. Fans were definitely delighted upon hearing “Sparkle” and “Is There Still Anything That Love Can Do?” performed live by the band.

As if their performance alone was not enough, RADWIMPS also surprised the fans by having Toaka as a guest performer, singing ‘Suzume,’ one of the theme songs of the movie “Weathering with You.” The graceful voice of the singer, accompanied by the band, surely made the fans go wild.

As the band concluded the show, vocalist Yujiro talked about the purpose of their tour and that peace is what their goal to achieve. “I visited some places yesterday, it was one of the places from the era of World War 2. I went there for the first time and there were historical places that Japanese have been to and what they did to the people. I just want to say that this tour title is called, The way you yawn, and the outcry of Peace and we don’t want to forget. You guys cheer up on the music and this means so much to us and we would like to keep this peace moving on with our music,” he stated.

After playing their last song, ‘Kimi to Hitsuji to Ao,’ RADWIMPS returned to the stage to treat their loyal fans to two more encore songs: ‘Nandemonaiya’ and ‘05410 -(N).’
