IVE enters a mythical fantasy world in ‘HEYA’ MV

IVE truly is one K-Pop girl group that shouldn’t be missed.

On April 29, 2024, IVE returns to the K-pop music radar with their second EP, “IVE Switch” and released their record on all streaming platforms at 6 P.M. KST. This comes four months after their first English-language digital single, “All Night” feat. Saweetie, and six months since their first EP, “I’ve Mine.”

The EP includes six tracks, with two leading tracks ‘Heya’ and ‘Accendio,’ and B-sides ‘Blue Heart,’ ‘Ice Queen,’ ‘WOW,’ and ‘RESET.’

In a press release released on the same day, IVE’s Jang Won-young said that their album and its double title tracks “will not only show off the ‘independent and confident’ side of IVE, but also their ‘charming and mystical’ group sound.

Jang Won-young also explained IVE’s double and contrasting concept, which had drawn much attention following the teaser images released weeks ago. “A variety of new attempts were made in the production to show off IVE’s multiple sides.” She added, “In the case of the two lead tracks, the impactful ‘HEYA’ is a powerful hip-hope genre with lyrics that depict a fable, while ‘Accendio’ has a mysterious charm that casts a spell [on its listeners].”

According to member Gaeul, “IVE Switch will show off one’s multifaceted sides, unlike the previous album which explored one person from multiple perspectives.” She also added, “IVE will retell existing stories about love—such as fables and tales related to the sun, emotions that surface when one faces love and the transformation through spells—with a more self-reliant attitude.”

One of the EP’s tracks, ‘Blue Heart’ solely credits Jang Won-young as the lyricist. The song draws focus on the hyperscrutiny that female idols face in the industry. In their comeback live, Jang Won-young says, “I think ‘Blue Heart’ is the song I cherish the most out of all the songs I’ve written so far. I wanted to write about the strength of women, and this song conveys that one should choose an icy cold heart over a warm red one, to live life with confidence.”

The music video of ‘HEYA’ sees the IVE members in a pastel-colored world which drew inspiration from the Korean folktale, “The Tiger Who Loved the Sun.”

DIVEs were ecstatic after the mini album had finally dropped and did not hesitate to share all their emotions about it on social media.

Since their debut, IVE hasn’t missed any opportunity to innovate and still stay with their roots. They’re just that group, at this point.
