A dog named “Benjie” was rescued after being seen in a weak state under a small roof near the rescuer’s house.
In a post made by the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) on Facebook, they wrote, “PROTECT THEIR PAWS 😢🐾 Benjie was found desperately seeking shade, taking refuge under a small roof by the house of his rescuer.”
“He was incredibly weak, dehydrated, and had severely scalded paw pads. He limped and whimpered as every small step brought him agony, unable to even stand properly as sharp pain shot from his flesh-exposed paws,” the post continued.
Thanks to an immediate response from a good samaritan, Benjie was able to receive medical assistance at PAWS. Although he is still weak, he is slowly recovering and regaining his strength.
To end their post, the organization reminds everyone to keep their pets safe and wrote, “As this intense heatwave persists, let’s keep our pets and other animals safe. Shield them from hot surfaces like concrete roads and pavement to prevent burns and blisters. Keep pets indoors and opt for walks in grassy areas during early mornings or near sunset for a cooler and safer adventure.”
Social media users took to the comments to express what they felt about the rescuing of Benjie.
PAWS also took to the comments section to further explain the current state of Benjie writing, “Benjie was made to wear a donut pillow by the vet to avoid licking the medication off his paws. He was in so much pain and the only way he knew to soothe it was by licking the burns.”
They also have shared a link to another post of a compiled list of reminders and tips on how pets can beat the summer heat.
Please take care of your pets so that nothing similar to this will happen to them.
