5-star hotel in Manila faces backlash over ‘unprofessional behavior’ towards interns

Diamond Hotel Philippines is currently facing backlash for its management’s alleged unruly behavior towards interns.

A Facebook user shared his girlfriend’s experience in a lengthy post and wrote, “How unprofessional and Body Shamer yung mga Managers and Human Resource nyo! [How unprofessional and body-shaming your Managers and Human Resource are!]; STORY TIME: My girlfriend is looking for a 3-5 Star Hotel where [she] can do her internship/OJT as required by her school. I know she’s been tired for two consecutive weeks, looking and going around Metro Manila and Tagaytay.”

“She then received a text message last Wednesday for an interview from Diamond Hotel. We have been delighted as finally, this will made her dream come true to finish her college. She went last Thursday and spoke with one of your Managers and she was called as ‘Gasul’ [gas tank] kasi daw, ‘Maliit kana nga, mataba pa.’ [small and fat] Manager added ‘That’s true!, Magreduce ka!’ [You should lose weight],” the user continued.

The girl did not make it unfortunately for the internship opportunity and ended up being disappointed to the point where she cried because of her frustration.

He warned other students interested in having their internship at the hotel to be cautious about how they are treated, highlighting that it reflects the toxic environment the hotel has with its staff and future employees.

He ended his post calling out Diamond Hotel and wrote, “I’m calling you out Diamond Hotel! I don’t want others to feel what my girlfriend had experienced. She deserves an apology. Hence, this shouldn’t be normalized.”

Furious social media users took to the comments section of the hotel’s page to express their disappointment.

Several people have also reached out to OP,  in which they purportedly shared the same sentiment about having experienced a similar treatment from the hotel’s management.

Diamond Hotel Philippines has since responded over the allegations. In a post made on their official page, they posted (without caption), “Diamond Hotel Philippines is aware of a recent Facebook post that brought attention to an alleged incident concerning an internship applicant. We want to assure everyone that the hotel does not tolerate such behavior and take these claims seriously. The hotel is currently investigating the matter to take appropriate actions.”

The page has since limited who can comment on the said post.
