Ryan Reynolds, Randall Park recreate ‘The Office’ prank for John Krasinski’s upcoming movie

John Krasinski and Ryan Reynolds pulled a joke from an episode of the hit television program “The Office” to have a bit of fun while promoting their new film “IF.”

The actors released a teaser for their upcoming film “IF,” the live-action animation film, written and directed by the real John Krasinski and co-starring Reynolds.

In the clip, Reynolds begins to speak, but Park, who is seated in the director’s chair, suddenly cuts him off and pretends to be Krasinski. Reynolds asks Park what he’s doing, seeming bewildered, and Park responds that he’s discussing their next movie.

“You’re not John Krasinski. You’re Randall Park. John Krasinski is much shorter and less Asian than you are,” Reynolds says. “Uh, Ryan, I know it’s been a while since we shot, but we spent, like, four months together. Like, 10-hour days,” the Park replies.

Reynolds then questions Park about Krasinski’s marital status and birthplace. Park provides accurate responses: Emily Blunt and Boston. Reynolds asserts that he must have looked up the answers on Wikipedia and refuses to acknowledge Park as Krasinski.

The reference from the teaser is the prank made on the premiere of the season nine episode of the NBC sitcom. In the episode, Randall Park’s character mimics Jim Halpert (Krasinski), which throws Dwight Schrute (Rainn Wilson) into confusion. Park shows that he is serious about the role by accepting his job responsibilities, kissing Jim’s wife Pam (Jenna Fischer), and even putting up a framed picture of their “family.”

Despite Reynolds’ inability to accept Park as Krasinski, the two continue their conversation on the concept and production of “IF,” which is followed by some snippets from the live-action-meets-Pixar film.

John Krasinski also changed his Facebook profile picture with Park’s face, which many people found hilarious.

The movie “IF,” which stands for “imaginary friends,” depicts the story of a young girl, played by Cailey Fleming, who experiences adversity and begins to see other people’s imaginary friends who were left behind by their real-life friends who have grown up.

Blunt, Maya Rudolph, Louis Gossett Jr., Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Matt Damon, and Steve Carell (Krasinki’s former TV boss) will also star in the upcoming film.

A sneak peek of the movie will premiere on Super Bowl LVIII on Sunday, February 11, and will air in theaters on May 17.
