Tragedy struck on the set of the Marvel series “Wonder Man” as a crewmember lost his life on Tuesday morning, February 6.
Juan Carlos Osorio, a 41-year-old rigger of Temple City, met a fatal fate after a fall from the catwalk at the Los Angeles studio set.
Despite Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics’ swift response to the calls, Osorio was reported dead at the scene, at the CBS Radford Studios lot in Studio City at 7 am.
Marvel expressed their condolences, stating, “Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with his family and friends, and our support is behind the investigation into the circumstances of this accident.”
The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE), the union representing behind-the-scenes workers, voiced shock and sorrow over the loss. President Matthew D. Loeb released a statement to Fox News, emphasizing their commitment to safety and pledging full cooperation with the investigation led by Cal/OSHA.
Loeb also urged members to report safety, “If you feel unsafe on set for any reason, members can call the IATSE Safety Hotline at 844-422-9273 or use our safety info app.”
Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Simons Williams, the transformative superhero, and the return of Ben Kingsley as Trevor Slattery from “Iron Man 3” added anticipation to the “Wonder Man” series.
The series’ premiere date remained undisclosed.
