Maris Racal’s note-taking photos spark a brand new meme format

Filipinos just can’t take Irene Tiu (Maris Racal) seriously.

Maris Racal has been labeled the ‘Meme Queen’ as she continues to be a source of content that Filipino social media users convert into memes.

On January 4, 2023, Maris shared photos of her on X (formerly Twitter), with a notebook and a pen, taking notes, as if she is deeply contemplating things before jotting them down with the caption: “studious.”

Just a few hours later, a new meme format was born as X users created witty memes using the photos that caught Maris’ attention.

The day after recognizing the surfacing memes, she took to Facebook saying, “January 5 palang, pero ang dami nang leaks ng mga nasulat ko saking 2024 journal [It’s only January 5, but there are already a lot of leaks from what I wrote in my 2024 journal].”

Moreover, with the rapid creation of memes from her photos, she also posted on Instagram, “I hate twitterrrrr,” with the chosen memes of her photos as entries to Filipino ‘memescape.’

The witty contents include Maris being the mastermind behind some drawings that had already circulated on social media, as well as her playful responses to certain textbook questions.
