4 unique airline services that can maximize your travel experience

Travelling is known to be a holistic experience that not only gives people an escape from their daily routines, but is also a source of education by gaining new perspectives, meeting new people, and learning about the world.

Because this requires a lot of time and energy, from researching about the destination, booking for tours and accommodation, and sitting through long hours of travel, we definitely do need a hand to achieve that smooth, fuss-free trip.

Here are 4 unique airline services that you didn’t know you needed to help you maximize your travel experience:

In-flight chat service

“Meet & Seat” service

Dutch carrier KLM takes advantage of technology in its “Meet & Seat” service. With the help of social networking sites Facebook and LinkedIn, it allows you to see your fellow passengers travelling on your flight, as well as their selected seats, through their respective profiles.

Virgin America offers travellers access to a general chat on board where they can get acquainted with others and discover useful information such as tourist-worthy attractions and details on accommodation. The in-flight entertainment system allows ordering and paying for food and drinks for you and your favorite fellow traveller.

Clothing rental service

Japan Airlines is offering “Any Wear, Anywhere,” a clothing rental service to help customers cut down on their baggage. This comes with a delivery service wherein the ordered clothing bundle can be delivered straight to their hotel or Airbnb upon arrival in Japan. Clothing bundles can be ordered with a maximum of nine items, including a mix of tops, bottoms, and outerwear. These are curated per season, occasion, and size and customers can keep these for up to two weeks.

Valuing sustainability, customers are encouraged to travel light by this service since it helps reduce harmful carbon emissions. The airline will track the impact of this rental service by measuring passengers’ checked-in baggage to see how much emissions have been reduced through the service.

Nanny service

Travellers with children can eliminate their worries of watching over their kids with Etihad Airways’ “Flying Nannies”. This nanny service will look after children during the flight, providing an entertainment program with drawing activities, tricks, and educational games. Cradles are supplied as well for young travellers.

Economy class bed

This enables economy passengers to turn seats into beds, considering the demand for purchasing a block of seats on long flights. Air New Zealand’s “Skycouch” and Lufthansa’s “Sleeper’s Row” provide this service in advance when customers buy their tickets to give a more comfortable flying experience to economy class passengers. Emirates also offers to buy a block of up to three adjoining seats but can only be purchased before departure at the airport if seats are available. Such seats will range from $55 to $165.
