Mark Zuckerberg says Facebook users should not screenshot chats, but Filipinos have been doing this nonstop for laughs

ICYMI: Facebook founder and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg had warned Facebook users to stop screengrabbing messages back in 2022.

In an update made in 2022, Zuckerberg revealed that Messenger will be introducing the “disappearing messages” feature which will make all new messages disappear or “vanish” after a set amount of time, and will now notify users if someone had taken a screenshot of their chat.

“New update for end-to-end encrypted Messenger chats so you get a notification if someone screenshots a disappearing message. We’re also adding GIFs, stickers, and reactions to encrypted chats too.”

The post included a screenshot of a conversation with his wife, Priscilla Chan, demonstrating how the feature works.

The feature, appropriately called “Vanish Mode” was said to be designed “with safety and choice in mind, so you control your experience” by Messenger Product Manager Bridget Pujals and Instagram Product Manager Manik Singh in a statement with USA Today.

Because this feature is being used in just several parts of the world, not everyone seems to be aware of it—Filipinos included. If you’ve been an active participant on Filipino Twitter and Facebook humor, then you may have noticed how “essential” chat screenshots are sometimes to Filipino internet humor.

And if this feature is rolled out in the Philippines, it might mean the end of an era for funny and meme-able screenshots from Messenger. Not that we don’t care for safety and privacy, though. It’s just that…part of Filipino internet humor are the stupid and relatable funnies.

Here are just some of them. Yes we know, some are parody. Still funny, though:
