Lady Gaga seeks to dismiss lawsuit regarding her refusal to pay $500,000 reward for her stolen dogs

Popular American singer-songwriter Lady Gaga will not pay Jennifer McBride, the woman who returned her dogs in 2021, the reward for bringing them back.

Lady Gaga is a pop icon who is known worldwide for her hit songs “Shallow,” “Poker Face,” “Born This Way,” and of course the 2009 famous song “Bad Romance.”

The singer-songwriter’s dogs were said to have been taken from their dog walker two years ago in a highly publicized dognapping incident. Two of Lady Gaga’s three dogs, named Gustav and Koji, were taken, but McBride returned the dogs to the Los Angeles Police Department. Prior to the return of the dogs, the singer-songwriter had tweeted that she would give $500,000 to anyone who could bring the two dogs back.

“My beloved dogs Koji and Gustav were taken in Hollywood two nights ago. My heart is sick and I am praying my family will be whole again with an act of kindness,” the pop star said in her tweet. “I will pay $500,000 for their safe return.”

Back in February this year, it was reported that McBride sued Lady Gaga as she refused to give the exchange intended for safely bringing back her dogs.

Lady Gaga filed a motion to turn down the lawsuit and argued that McBride took part in the scheme of getting her dogs. A hearing for the singer-songwriter’s dismissal motion has been set on July 10.

“Plaintiff Jennifer McBride seeks to profit from her participation in a crime,” the singer-songwriter’s lawyers stated in the court documents.

According to a report, the lawyers of the singer-songwriter claimed that the woman made it appear that she was a good Samaritan who happened to find the missing dogs. They added that McBride participated in the crime.

The woman is said to have been sentenced to two years probation.

Lady Gaga will not be paying McBride even if the latter has argued that she accomplished the terms of the contract for the reward.

McBride is suing for fraud by false promise, breach of contract, and fraud by misrepresentation.

Aside from these, the woman is also looking to be compensated for damages, which Lady Gaga’s side said was not experienced by McBride in bringing back the dogs.
