Trailer of upcoming Filipino series ‘Senior High’ receives mixed reactions on Twitter

ABS-CBN has just released the trailer of its upcoming show, “Senior High,” last May 19. Many fans were excited to see their favorite Filipino stars onboard a new project, but there were also some that had slightly differing thoughts about the trailer.

Andrea Brilliantes and Xyriel Manabat are the leads of the series, to be joined by other cast members including Kyle Echarri, Zaijan Jaranilla, Elijah Canlas, Juan Karlos, Daniela Stranner, Miggy Jimenez, Gela Atayde, and Tommy Alejandrino.

This also marks the first show where Brillantes and Echarri will work together again after their series “Huwag Kang Mangamba” ended in 2020.

“Senior High” will be presented by ABS-CBN Entertainment and Dreamscape Entertainment. In a tweet, Dreamscape Entertainment posted the video of the trailer. “When parents are AWAY, the kids will definitely PLAY! Who are you when no one is watching?” the company wrote in the caption.

The trailer shows the cast, along with other young people, at a party having fun while drinking and doing…party stuff.

However, following the release of this trailer, many Filipinos online said that it was far from the experiences of senior high school students in the Philippines. Some also said that the trailer is similar to various popular series like “Euphoria” and “Elite.”

“Maybe we should stop copying western tv shows (like Euphoria) and start creating original art that actually promotes the authentic Filipino hs experience? These characters look so white coded and unserious,” an online user said in a quote retweet.

“I wish they did interview actual senior high students before filming because even the southies don’t act like this,” another user said in another tweet. “Also, it does give younger teens an unrealistic presentation about senior high…” the online user added.

Other fans, however, defended the trailer and argued that there were still senior high school students who had experienced what was shown in the trailer.

“To those that are questioning the accuracy of the characters/situations being portrayed: just because YOU haven’t experienced/witnessed it, doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. Let this series be your eye opener lol,” an online user said in a quote retweet.

“I honestly understand the heated takes on this series but we need to remember that this is fictional, it’s not meant to depict the lives of actual filo high schoolers,” another user said in a quote retweet. “And yes. This happens in real life sa pilipinas. Maybe some of us have not experienced it pero some have…” the user added.
