Japanese café fires waitress for serving cocktails with her blood as requested by a customer

A Japanese goth-themed café has sacked its waitress for serving a beverage infused with her blood to customers.

Gross, right?

On April 2, the ‘Mondaiji Con Cafe Daku’ or ‘Problem Child Dark Café’, which is situated in the Susukino entertainment district of Sapporo on the island of Hokkaido, announced on Twitter that one of its servers stirred her own blood to ‘orikaku’ or ‘original cocktail.’ The said drink is made up of different fruits and supplementary flavors.

The horrible event occurred when a customer allegedly asked the waitress to put her blood on the mixture, which the latter granted. After the incident, the management made a public apology and decided to shut down the business operation for a day to replace all the drinking glasses in-store and dispose of liquors that may have been contaminated.

The owner condemned the staff and said that such a deed is no different from ‘part-time job terrorism’ and is deemed to be ‘unacceptable.’ As an immediate action, they fired the unidentified waitress to ensure that there will be no reports of such cases in the future.

The gothic-themed café, which features ‘dark girls’ and ‘problem children’, is one of the typical drinking establishments in Japan — offering an all-you-can-drink menu for around 2,500¥ or 19$.

Meanwhile, doctors have advised customers who got exposed to the blood-contaminated cocktail to undergo medical tests and take significant safety precautions for possible blood-transmitted diseases like HIV, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, and syphilis. Although the chances of getting infected from drinking another person’s blood are relatively low, the risk of getting serious illnesses from it should still be considered.

According to research about blood consumption, blood is similar to raw meat which contains harmful bacteria that may result in food poisoning and blood-borne illnesses when ingested. In little amounts (say, a few teaspoons), blood might not harm you; however, if you consume too much blood with pathogens, you may get iron overloaded.
