Ed Sheeran just reveals that he’s planning to release a posthumous album.
With his new confessional album releasing this year entitled – (Subtract), the singer opened up about his future career plans in a recent interview.
Now that the singer has completed the cycle of five albums named after mathematical symbols, he confessed that he has five more in mind based on another set of symbols, and that the last of them won’t be released in his lifetime.
“I want to slowly make this album that is quote-unquote ‘perfect’ for the rest of my life, adding songs here and there. And just have it in my will that after I die, it comes out,” he said.
He revealed that haters have always fueled him, saying, “I spent so long with people laughing about me making music.”
“Everyone saw me as a joke, and no one thought I could do it. And I think that’s still the drive. There’s still this need to prove myself. And I’m still kind of taken seriously. If you were to speak to any sort of muso, ‘Oh, I love my left-of-center music,’ I’m the punchline to what bad pop music is,” the singer added.
His latest album, Subtract, is set to drop on May 5 of this year. Sheeran collaborated with The National’s Aaron Dessner on this album. He also completed another upcoming album with the producer.
Sheeran said in reference to Dessner, “there’s no filter. There wasn’t any going back and checking on any lyrics. And I think that’s what was brilliant about Folklore and Evermore—it’s just complete brain-to-page. That’s where you get lines like, ‘When I felt like I was an old cardigan under someone’s bed, you put me on and said I was your favorite.’ There wasn’t anyone challenging that line. And that’s why it’s brilliant.”
