BLACKPINK breaks record for world’s ‘most-streamed female band’

K-pop girl group BLACKPINK has reached another milestone, this time becoming the most streamed female group on a global streaming platform.

The news was confirmed by the Guinness World Records on March 8, with their songs garnering a total of 8,880,030,049 individual streams.

Formed in 2016, the band members Rose, Jennie, Lisa, and Jisoo took over the British pop group Little Mix with 400 million streams. “How You Like That” (746,198,263 streams), “Kill This Love” (672,084,360), and “DDU-DU DDU-DU” (574,613,362) are among their most popular songs.

They toured through the United States and Europe back in 2022 and have upcoming shows in Asia and Australia this year. All four members of BLACKPINK have at least 66 million followers on Instagram, while their group’s account has 53 million followers.

Besides their collective success, the girls have recently branched out into their own solo careers, with instant success. Lisa became the first solo K-pop winner at the MTV Video Music Awards in 2022, as well as the first solo K-pop winner at the MTV Europe Music Awards.

Back in 2021, Rose became the first artist to reach number one on the Billboard Global chart as a soloist and as part of a group with her debut single, “On The Ground.”

As a band, BLACKPINK holds several records, including the most YouTube subscribers for a band and being the first K-pop group to reach No. 1 on the UK and US albums chart (female).

The quartet also previously held Guinness World Records titles for the most viewed YouTube video in 24 hours and the most viewed music video in 24 hours, but these records are now broken by K-pop band BTS for their single “Dynamite.”
