Take a look at some of the best moments at the 2022 American Music Awards

Can you believe it’s been a year since we witnessed Bruno Mars and Anderson Paak’s first live performance of “Smokin Out The Window,” the first stage of Coldplay and BTS’ “My Universe,” the iconic “we wanna focus on” speech by BTS Jungkook, and the Cardi B hosting moments?

Yes, time surely flies fast! Well, the 2022 AMAs has recorded its own best moments that caught fans abuzz on the internet, too.

On November 20, the 50th annual American Music Awards was held in the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. The event recognizes the most popular artists and music within their category, and within the eligibility period starting September 24, 2021.

The star of the night was none other than internet-breaker and “Midnight Rain” singer, Taylor Swift, who bagged all of the awards she’s nominated for. Top winners also include BTS, Harry Styles, Kendrick Lamar, Bad Bunny, Morgan Wallen, Tems, and Wizkid, with each winning a pair of awards.

Here are some of the highlights from the recent American Music Awards.

Pink paid tribute to the late singer and actress Olivia Newton-John by performing a cover of the song “Hopelessly Devoted To You.” “She was such an icon, and it’s a really big honor to be able to sing her,” the singer said.

Prior to this, she gave a remarkable and colorful performance of her new single, “Never Gonna Not Dance Again.”

Lionel Richie wins the ‘Icon Award’

Lionel Richie made history at the 2022 AMAs by winning the prestigious AMA Icon award. The 73-year-old singer has been present to the stage of the AMAs every decade since the ceremony began. The “Easy” singer bagged a total of 18 awards throughout his career, including the recent one. The very first one was awarded to him in 1979. During his acceptance speech, Richie took time to give advice to the “young superstars” of today.

“When you hear the word ‘hip,’ it means today. When you hear the word ‘inspiring,’ it means forever. If you get a chance to have that light on you, understand what God has in store,” Richie said.

Cardi B and GloRilla’s surprise performance of ‘Tomorrow 2’

The American rapper and 2023 Grammy nominee GloRilla performed on the AMA stage for the first time with her hit song, “Tomorrow 2.” The audience was taken by surprise as she was joined on stage by last year’s AMA host, female co-rapper Cardi B. It also marked the first television performance of their collaboration song.

Taylor Swift sweeps AMA awards

Taylor Swift made history once again as she bagged all six awards in all categories she’s nominated in, including the top award, “Artist of The Year.” With this, she became the “Most-Awarded Artist” in the history of the AMAs.

“You, the fans, made it clear that you wanted to hear lots of music that I would make. You encouraged me. So I found the more music I made and the more music I put out, the happier I was,” Swift said during her acceptance speech.

Swift recently released her album “Midnights.” The majority of her songs dominated the charts and took over all the top 10 spots for the Billboard Hot 100, also a first in history.

Stevie Wonder and Charlie Puth perform Richie’s hits

Singers Stevie Wonder and Charlie Puth paid tribute to Lionel Richie, the 2022 AMAs’ Icon awardee. Wonder and Puth took over the stage and performed portions of Richies’ hit songs on a piano which the latter jokingly called the “musical tennis match of Lionel Richie copyright.”

“This is a great night because we’re here to honor a great man,” Wonder says.
