‘The Simpsons: Hit & Run’ has a fan-made remake, and it’s open world

The Simpsons Hit and Run is one of those cult classic games that triggers everyone’s nostalgia. The game was basically The Simpsons version of Grand Theft Auto (GTA) and was a semi-open-world game with missions and a coherent story. Developed by Radical Entertainment, it was a game released back in 2003 for the PS2, Gamecube, Xbox, and PC.

Recently, YouTuber reubs made a full remake of the game with updated graphics, a true open-world map, new cutscenes and dialogues, and even online multiplayer. This 17-minute video showcases how reubs was able to make a new remake using Unreal Engine 5, a modern video game engine.

Unfortunately, there’s one significant catch to this remake – it is unavailable to the public due to complicated copyright reasons. Despite everyone wanting a downloadable remake of this classic game, there are just too many reasons as to why it could be a troublesome issue for reubs. Additionally, it might be difficult for reubs to resolve the copyright issue for this game since Radical Entertainment, the company that developed the original game, shut down years ago.

Even The Simpsons producer Matt Selman wants to see a remake, but he acknowledges how difficult that could be. He told IGN this: “I would love to see a remastered version of [Simpsons Hit & Run], I would. It’s a complicated corporate octopus to try to make that happen.”

YouTuber reubs will continue to work on his The Simpsons: Hit and Run remake, as there is a lot more that he wants to do with the project. The video he released is only the first episode of his planned series. Let’s wait and see the progress he’ll be making, and hopefully, there will be a way to work out the copyright issues in the future so that we can have a chance to play the remake.
