Junji Ito to release new manga collection ‘The Liminal Zone’

The well-known Japanese horror manga artist Junji Ito is releasing a brand new story collection called The Liminal Zone. It’s set to release this July 26, according to VIZMedia. They also released a quick teaser trailer for the upcoming manga.

The official description for The Liminal Zone on Amazon is this:

“What destiny awaits them after the screaming?

After abruptly departing from a train in a small town, a couple encounters a “weeping woman”—a professional mourner—sobbing inconsolably at a funeral. Mako changes afterward—she can’t stop crying! In another tale, having decided to die together, a couple enters Aokigahara, the infamous suicide forest. What is the shocking otherworldly torrent that they discover there?

One of horror’s greatest talents, Junji Ito beckons readers to join him in an experience of ultimate terror with four transcendently terrifying tales.”

2022 has been a good year so far for Junji Ito fans. This October, we’ll finally be met with the release of the long-awaited anime adaptation of Ito’s most famous work, Uzumaki, produced by Toonami and Production I.G. This adaptation makes use of animation techniques like rotoscoping and imitates Ito’s art style, primarily by being completely black and white.

We also recently got an announcement of another anime adaptation of Junji Ito’s work, titled Junji Ito Maniac: Japanese Tales of the Macabre. The upcoming horror anthology will feature 20 of his famous horror stories, including his first-ever published work Tomie and Hanging Balloons.

Junji Ito is a legend in the horror world. He is a three-time Eisner Award winner, and his distinct line-art, terrifying art style, and weirdly creepy storytelling have left people around the world having a hard time sleeping at night.
