Buzzfeed Unsolved releases ‘Dark Horrors of the Philippines’ series

The Buzzfeed Unsolved Network will be releasing a series of mini-documentaries involving dark history and past controversies in the Philippines.

The Dark Horrors of the Philippines series is led by Aria Inthavong of the Buzzfeed Unsolved team. It comprises three short documentaries focusing on terrifying, spooky, and shocking real-life events in the country while also discussing and looking at the more significant issues surrounding them.

Buzzfeed Unsolved Network launched a teaser on YouTube that includes some snippets from different controversial events that happened in the past, such as the Manila Film Center tragedy, the U.S. colonialization period, the Jabidah Massacre of 1968, and the Ferdinand Marcos regime.

The teaser garnered different reactions from the public, especially since the Philippine national elections are days away.

The first episode entitled “The Restless Spirits Of The Manila Film Center”, premiered on Aria Inthavong’s YouTube channel last April 30, 2022. The episode revolves around the journey of Aria and photographer JL Javier in attempting to go inside the spooky and controversial Manila Film Center. The episode also reveals the heartbreaking and tragic event that happened during the construction of the said 8-storey building.

The Manila Film Center is the result of the dream of the former First Lady Imelda Marcos to make Manila the cultural center of the East, a city that could compete with France and its Cannes Film Festival. However, the dream came at the expense of innocent workers, whose bodies were left on the building’s walls and floors, which haunts the place up to this day.

Since the Philippine National Elections are just a few days away, Aria sends Filipinos an important message.

“Elections in the Philippines are just days away from now, and I kindly ask you to like, comment, and share this video so we can help combat a lot of the misinformation being spread about martial law and the Marcos regime.”

The Dark Horrors of the Philippines series is Aria’s introduction to a large-scale project entitled “SOLIVAGANT,” which features other countries and deal with the intersection of true crime and culture. The project can be exclusively watched on the Buzzfeed Unsolved Network channel on YouTube.
