Art Fair PH 2022 promises ‘hybrid experience’ with AR and virtual exhibits

Save the date! This year’s Art Fair Philippines has opened its gates for audiences to experience the 10 day attraction of its exhibitors and feel art in real time for its first physical exhibition since 2020. The hybrid event will premiere on March 23 and will run until April 1 at the Ayala Triangle Gardens, Makati.

Art Fair Philippines 2022 is making its way to a hybrid experience that will take its audiences on another level. With photo and film sections, interactive augmented reality, Metaverse with virtual exhibits, and many more.

The venue will have art consultant Norman Crisologo and exhibition designer Ed Lacson to present an art installation at the Ayala Tower One Fountain Area for the ArtfairPH/Projects section. ArtFairPH/ Projects is presented by the Bank of the Philippine Islands.

This year’s fair will have Philippine exhibitors and six international galleries that seek to provide a platform for art practices that are beyond the recognized urban art centers.

It will also have several art groups from the three main island clusters of the Philippines to join the fair, wherein these exhibitors will have a section that provides Regional Focus. The exhibitors are:

The 2022 Art Fair will be featuring artists, including a special exhibition of works by the late Aro Soriano as well as renowned social realist Nune Alvarado. New commissions from internationally-based and rising Filipino visual artists will also be participating in the event.

As it promises a hybrid experience, Art Fair Philippines will have a physical exhibit of a photo section titled “Tattoos, Ternos, and Couture, A Celebration of Philippines Fashion Photography” curated by Neal Oshima, Michael Salientes, Mark Nicdao, and Gio Panlilio.

The film section will be presenting works of New York-based new media artist Jeremy Couillard, who will be including his film There Is No Up Or Down, Only Attraction that explores creatures across galactic vistas, some pixelated gaming maps, and streetscapes. ArtFairPH/Film is co-presented by Globe platinum. The artist’s Fuzz Spiral series, which is a collection of three films based on his recent video game Fuzz Dungeon (2021), will also be featured. Coulliard’s works will transport viewers to a fantastical world and a new dimension of color and light.

Additionally, Art Fair Philippines will also present an interactive augmented reality (AR) art trail. The digital-meets-physical show with artists Leeroy New and Eliza Victoria will be showcasing its audience into a journey through time and space wherein it questions the solidity of our relationship with reality and imagination through the face of climate crisis.

This year’s exhibit allows the participants to join the Gallery walkthrough on March 23-24 to experience virtual tours of the exhibitors. In appreciation for contemporary art, the fair will have ArtFairPH/Talks, which includes discussions on collecting artwork and advice for artists, NFTs, and even a talk about the special photo exhibit.

The talk is in partnership with the Ateneo Art Gallery, Museum Foundation of the Philippines, and the Embassy of Spain.
