Along with the premiere dates, the creators also stated that the new season, which was filmed for almost two years, will have a “runtime nearly twice the length of any previous season.”
“Everyone involved is incredibly proud of the results, and we can’t wait to share it with you,” they continued.
Although the Duffers described Stranger Things season 4 as a season that is “bigger than ever,” they revealed that it will become the “penultimate” to the next and last season. Stranger Things is set to conclude with Season 5, sticking to the creators’ original plan long before the beginning of production.
The letter did not confirm any kind of spin-off, but it did tease, “there are still many more exciting stories to tell within the world of Stranger Things; new mysteries, new adventures, new unexpected heroes.”
As season 3 ended on a major cliffhanger, fans surely await what’s more to the story.
The official plot of the new season reads: “It’s been six months since the Battle of Starcourt, which brought terror and destruction to Hawkins. Struggling with the aftermath, our group of friends are separated for the first time — and navigating the complexities of high school hasn’t made things any easier. In this most vulnerable time, a new and horrifying supernatural threat surfaces, presenting a gruesome mystery that, if solved, might finally put an end to the horrors of the Upside Down.”
