‘Hocus Pocus 2’ wraps filming and reveals release date

The Sanderson sisters are back and they are ready to cast a spell on us! Producer Adam Shankman has shared on Instagram that the anticipated film Hocus Pocus 2 has wrapped filming and is set to arrive this Halloween.

On January 28, Shankman teased a photo with the Sandersons sisters’ silhouettes, the infamous three witches who are played by Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy, and he wrote: “SISTAAAAAHHHHSSS! Aaaaand that’s a WRAP!!! #hocuspocus2 Congratulations to the amazing team @bettemidler @sarahjessicaparker @kathynajimy @567and8 @mrsleshem and the WHOOOOLLLEEEE cast and crew!!! Coming to you #halloween #2022 on @disneyplus.”

Midler, who played Winifred Sanderson, also shared on Twitter that they wrapped the film’s production. She wrote: “THAT’S A WRAP!!!!”

It was first confirmed in 2020 that Hocus Pocus 2 would be coming, and in 2021, they also teased on Instagram the first look of the Sanderson sisters for the film, announcing that they had begun production.

Hocus Pocus 2 will follow the story of the three high school students who accidentally brought back the Sanderson sisters to Salem in the present day. The Sanderson sisters find themselves looking for revenge, and it is up to the three students to put a stop on them before they wreak havoc.

The film is a sequel to Kenny Ortega’s 1993 classic Hocus Pocus and will pick up years after Max Dennison accidentally freeing the Sanderson sisters. Max, together with his sister Dani and Allison, had teamed up with a magical cat to steal the diabolical witches’ book of spells and stop them from becoming immortal.

The upcoming film will see the return of Midler, Parker, and Najimy, who all reprise their roles as Winifred, Sarah, and Mary Sanderson, respectively, from the 1993 film. Doug Jones is also set to return to the film. Joining the original cast are Ted Lasso, Tony Hale, Sam Richardson, Hannah Waddingham, Whitney Peak, Lilia Buckingham, Belissa Escobedo, Juju Brener, Froy Gutierrez, Taylor Paige Henderson, and Nina Kitchen.

Hocus Pocus 2 is directed by Step Up and The Proposal director Anne Fletcher, produced by Shankman, Lynn Harris, David Kirschner, and Steven Haft.
