LUMINOUS released the “2nd story” in their LUMINOUS series, “Between Darkness and Light” (“Self n Ego”) with a concept of finding one’s self through happiness and worries. The album presents the theme of “Where Am I?” that goes about comparing “The Real Me (Self)” and the “Manufactured being (Ego)”. It shows the story of a struggling youth who lingers between the borders of light and darkness. The second mini album follows a storyline of someone grappling with the existence of true self and a created self in an endless mess.

It can be remembered that their first album, “Youth”,  conveys the message of confronting a youthful life despite the troubles and difficulties it presents. On the other hand, “Between Darkness and Light” (“Self n Ego”) depicts the journey of the ‘youth’ wandering towards life and finding the meaning of their chosen path. The album simply represents comfort for the lonesome in this chaotic world.

LUMINOUS is the first Kpop group launched by entertainment company Barunson WIP. The four member boy group consists of: Young Bin (leader), Suil (dancer), Steven (rapper), and Woobin (main vocal). Like any other Kpop acts, LUMINOUS also has its own fictional “universe”, where each member symbolizes different elements that represents their image of “Light-like friend”. Young Bin presents the element light/highlight (cube), Suil is thunder (flash), while Steven identifies as fire (flare) and Woobin symbolizes moonlight.

“Between Darkness and Light” (“Self n Ego”) emits the feeling of living in hope and ‘fear’, yet withstanding life to its limit. The album consists of five song tracks that are Hip-hop based R&B and Pop music. LUMINOUS consoles its listeners through empathy in their music with its feeling of having someone listen to your story.

In their second mini album, LUMINOUS aims to make it through the top 50 of the charts. As they represent a “light-like friend”, and the empathy and comfort through their music, “Between Darkness and Light” (“Self n Ego”) sends a message to today’s struggling youth to always have courage and live life to the fullest.
