Manila, Taft – ENGLICOM is the premier Filipino-Chinese socio-civic organization in De La Salle University. “Transcend: Engage Amidst the Digital Age” is Englicom’s university-wide flagship event which aims to transcend the boundaries brought about by our current situations by way of initiative, innovation, and productivity. Esteemed speakers whose fields extend from the Arts, Business to Science & Technology were invited to discuss and share their experiences on transcending boundaries during the COVID-19 pandemic. The event will be concluded with a business pitch competition.
Transcend will showcase four activities that will be the highlight of your month!
The goal of the webinars is to educate the audience about how the fields of arts, business, and science & technology come together during the pandemic. Moreover, to inspire Lasallian students to engage through initiative, innovation, and productivity, the organizers hope the audience will exhibit the main takeaways.
About the Speakers
Transcend: The Art of Finding Your Niche
The first speaker is Sharlene Yap, a UP Diliman undergraduate taking up a Bachelor of Science Major in Computer Science, who will be sharing advice and her experience as a content creator amidst the pandemic. She is a freelance illustrator and animator with a Youtube channel boasting a whopping 281k subscribers. You’ll be sure to learn a lot and let your creativity soar!
Transcend: The Business of Finding Strategies That Work
For our second speaker, Janina Almirañez will take the stage with her business prowess. She is a Bachelor of Arts Major in Psychology graduate of De La Salle University-Manila, an alumna with various work experience in the field of business. Her current occupation is as a Market Development Officer – Segment Marketing at the Pru Life UK.
Transcend: The Science of Moving Forward to Success
Last but not least, our third speaker is Kathleen Aviso, with a Ph.D. degree in Industrial Engineering from De La Salle University. She is a Multi-Awarded Researcher in Science. Her current occupation is a University Fellow and a Professor of the Chemical Engineering Department of De La Salle University.
The Transcend Business Pitch Competition
Being one of Englicom’s flagship events, Transcend has made the necessary arrangements to address the situation brought about by the pandemic; thus, introducing Transcend’s first-ever online business competition. It aims to present an opportunity for young aspiring Lasallian entrepreneurs to pitch in their business ideas. To give a brief overview of the competition, one-page pitches will be submitted to a panel of three judges and narrowed down into five finalist groups. The finalists will be given the opportunity to defend their pitches on the event proper happening on September 4, 2021, from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM. Exciting cash prizes of ₱8,000, ₱5,000, and ₱3,000 await the top 3 winners of the competition!
