Is Big Time Rush making a comeback? Fans theorize a possible reunion

Attention BTR stans: it might be time to roll out your old Big Time Rush posters because the band could be getting back together. Well, there’s no official statement yet, but Twitter is already abuzz with theories after the band dropped some hints on social media.

Fans have started speculating that the Los Angeles-based boy band might be having a reunion after noticing that the band’s official Twitter account changed its profile photo and background image to the color red.

Over on Instagram, the band and its four members — Logan Henderson, James Maslow, Carlos PenaVega, and Kendall Schmidt — also switched their profile photos to the same red circle on Twitter. Fans noticed the change last Monday, July 12. Some are speculating that the band is making a comeback with a tour or concert, while some think that the band will be releasing a new song or album.

Big Time Rush was formed in 2009 and had its own series on Nickelodeon also titled Big Time Rush that went on for four seasons and ended in 2013. The boy band released three albums and had their final tour in 2014.

While the band has gotten fans’ attention with their sudden profile photo switch on social media, the band’s official Twitter hasn’t made any announcement about a reunion or any context behind the matching red profile photos. The account’s latest post was back in March, announcing that the Big Time Rush TV series is heading to Netflix. The series started streaming on Netflix on March 26, and all four seasons of the show are available on the platform.

The band members also haven’t made any comments about the red profile photos, but in the past they have expressed interest in getting the band back together.

Maslow admitted earlier this year that the guys were in touch more in 2020 than previous years. He said that they “wanted to do several things just to bring some levity and some ‘stay positive’ nostalgia to [their] fans in such trying times.” He added that they need to “get past” the pandemic first before they can start touring, whether individually or as a group, but that “something may be on the table.” “We’ll see how things turn out this year,” said Maslow.

In June 2020, the band members had a virtual reunion. It was posted by PenaVega on the YouTube channel LexLovesLos, which he shares with his wife, Alexa PenaVega. For their virtual reunion, the four performed an acoustic version of their song “Worldwide” from their respective homes.

There’s still no official announcement from the band as of writing, so the meaning behind the red profile photos on social media remains a mystery. But who knows — a reunion could be just around the corner.
