Apple executives have filed a lawsuit against a former employee for reportedly stealing trade secrets to forward them to a journalist.
Consumers aren’t the only ones who have to worry about privacy, even tech giants like Apple are vulnerable to security breaches. Apparently a designer from the company has been using his access to download confidential data specifically to leak to this media contact. The culprit is Simon Lancaster who has worked on products like the MacBook Pro TouchBar, the Apple Watch and iPhone.
The lawsuit from Apple cites an instance where Lancaster had attended a meeting for a top secret project despite already submitting his resignation. A spokesperson stated, “stealing ideas and confidential information undermines their efforts, hurting Apple and our customers.”
The company takes strict precautions in protecting their products, with a controlled number of people who they do disclose information to. Those who have access to projects can sponsor those who don’t, Apple said. However, they must submit a request and include business justification.
Apple is hoping to take Simon Lancaster to a jury trial, requesting for injunctive relief as well.
