Twitter is competing with other social media platforms in the “temp share” space by launching its own stories-like feature called “Fleets”.
Posting temporary musings were initially made possible by Facebook’s My Day and Instagram and Snapchat’s Stories. Recently joining the bandwagon is Twitter’s “Fleets” – announcing its new function where users are allowed to post photos, videos, texts and even share tweets made available for viewing for 24 hours.
“That thing you didn’t Tweet but wanted to but didn’t but got so close but then were like nah. We have a place for that now,” the social media platform tweeted.

Of course, Twitterverse had a lot to say about this new feature:

Nobody asked for this. And the thing we’ve been begging for—better moderation to get rid of the Nazis— is still only available in Germany. Now you’ve just made it easier for them to harass people and not leave evidence??

That thing I "didn't Tweet but wanted to but didn't but got so close but then were like nah" was something I guessed you would censor, and maybe suspend me for saying, even though it was a perfectly sensible thing to say.
"Fleets" – thanks, but no. Scrap the censorship instead.

Please!
Twitter users: Can we have an edit button?
Twitter: Here, we moved the "create post" button?
Users: But can we edit?
Twitter: We changed how your timeline appears.

Twitter: Here's a stories feature no one one asked for.— Kristen Doerschner (@KrisDoerschner) November 17, 2020
While stickers and live broadcasting options are not available yet, the company announced that these features are staged to be added in the near future. Users can now post a tweet by pressing the “share” button at the bottom of a post and select “share in fleet”. This new feature allows users to feel more open in expressing their thoughts and opinions without the pressure of building the number of likes or retweets.
Similar to other major social media platforms, fleets can be found at the top of the user’s feed. Users can also have a list of who viewed their Fleets.
While the company has not confirmed whether this feature is going to available for desktop or laptop use, users can still try this new function using their mobile devices.
We’re hoping to see the edit post feature soon, though.
