Award-winning South African comedian, Carvin H. Goldstone, to have a one-night Manila show

Are you ready from some good, clean fun? Well, we sure hope you are as Prime i Events brings award-winning South African comedian, Carvin H. Goldstone, to Manila for a one-night only engagement as part of his ongoing Culture Shock world tour on May 19 at Relik Restaurant and Bar in Bonifacio Global City.

The self-styled “The Other South African Comedian” after Comedy Central’s Trevor Noah, Carvin’s signature clean and honest comedy–no swearing!–has made him a favorite of his audiences.

“We are quite excited about this show since as far as we know, Carvin is the very first South African stand-up comedian to perform in the Philippines. His brand of comedy has no swearing in his set, which is quite rare for a comic, and his topics are quite diverse,” says Saira Budhrani of Prime i Events.

Since his first one-man comedy show in 2011, NO SWEARING!, in Durban, Carvin has won several awards including Madras Masala Comedy Competition in 2006 and Graca Comedy Showdown Winner in 2011 and has been nominated two years in a row in the South African Comic of the Year at the South African Comics Choice Awards from 2016 to 2017.

Carvin is also a multi-awarded journalist having won four Vodacom Journalist of the Year awards, the highest honor in South African journalism.

“My comedic style is storytelling with lots of characters and facial expressions. Its clean comedy, and family-oriented. People can expect lots of jokes about music, church and family life,” Carvin says.

“I retell life experiences on stage. So sometimes it takes a long time to figure out where the funny parts are in the story,” he quips.

This isn’t Carvin’s first visit to Manila as he mentions that he has visited a few years ago as a rapper and spent two weeks performing in the Philippines–a memory he fondly remembers as “an amazing experience.”

“Prime i Events works hard in getting comedians from across the globe, and Manila has a unique opportunity to get entertained by the very talented Carvin,” says Dilip Budhrani of Prime i Events.

“I had the opportunity to meet and discuss the show with Ellen Vega, the Trade, Tourism & Marketing Manager of the South African Embassy, and I have personally invited the Honorable Ambassador Marthinus Slabber to be the Guest of Honor, and he is quite excited about this show coming to Manila, we expect his all-out support and that of the South African community in welcoming Carvin on May 19,” he added.

Preceding Carvin on stage is the Philippines’ own Ryan Rems, the grand winner of ABS-CBN’s It’s Showtime’s very first Funny One competition. Known for his trademark, “Rock and Roll to the World!” describing Ryan’s comedic style is said to be akin to “describing how a sunset look to a blind person: you either insult the blind person or the sun.”

“People know exactly what they are getting into as soon as he starts talking. His deliberate style of delivery allows the audience to follow perfectly to every punchline he has. His material on drugs is insightful and well thought of. And in a conservative country like the Philippines, making people laugh on taboo topics is a hard sell. Just watch him, then thank us later,” describes Comedy Manila.

Prepare for a bellyful of laughs this May 19, 8:30 p.m. at Carvin H. Goldstone alongside Ryan Rems and hosted by Jeps Gallon performs Culture Shock at Relik Restaurant and Bar in Bonifacio Global City.

Advance tickets are priced at P1,000 while door charge is at P1,250. Seats are limited so book early! Happy hour starts at 7:00 p.m.
