Crazy Town’s lead singer, Shifty Shellshock, passes away at 49

Rap rock band Crazy Town’s lead singer and co-founder, Shifty Shellshock, died on June 24 at the age of 49.

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner confirmed that the American musician was found dead in his residence. The cause of death, however, has yet to be disclosed.

Shifty Shellshock, born “Seth Binzer,” started his career when he collaborated with Bret “Epic” Mazur to form “The Brimstone Sluggers” in 1992. To flesh out their sound, they officially launched “Crazy Town” and brought in a whole new lineup, including Rust Epique, James Bradley Jr. (aka JBJ), Doug Miller, Adam Goldstein (aka DJ AM), and Antonio Lorenzo “Trouble” Valli.

Crazy Town rose to fame with the release of “Butterfly,” the third track from their debut album, “The Gift of Game,” in November 1999. It became an anthem of that era and achieved chart-topping success, reaching No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for two weeks. Unfortunately, the rock band did not replicate this success with their next releases, which led to their disbandment in 2003.

Shellshock began his solo career in 2004 with his debut album, “Happy Love Sick.” Over the years, he told the world about his struggle with drug addiction and spoke about it on reality shows, including VH1’s “Celebrity Rehab” and “Sober House.”

Shifty Shellshock left a significant impact on the music industry and will always be remembered as a talented musician who helped define the sound of early 2000s alternative rock.

May he rest in peace.
