“Mamma Mia!” will have a sequel and my, my, how can we resist it?

Fans of Mamma Mia! The Movie are in for a treat after execs announced a sequel in the works for the musical hit.

Ten years after the first movie came out in 2008, the upcoming sequel “Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again!” is set to be released on July 20, 2018 with the original cast Meryl Streep, Amanda Seyfried, Pierce Brosnan, and Colin Firth set to reprise their roles.

The first film that was based on a theatrical play follows a bride’s (Amanda Seyfried) quest to find her real father before her wedding in Greece. The film features musical performances of several hits by Swedish pop group ABBA, and according to The Hollywood Reporter, fans can expect more ABBA songs in the follow-up movie.

Past and present will also coincide as the second film is said to be not just a sequel but also somehow a prequel too. The film will continue with the story of the original cast’s present while also featuring new actors who will play their parts in the past.

Returning along with the cast are producers Gary Goetzman and Judy Craymer, who created and produced the original stage musical while Ol Parker is set to direct the film.
