The Ghibli Museum in Mitaka, Tokyo, Japan is undoubtedly one of the must-go destinations for Miyazaki fans. Apart from being a multi-storied mansion that is filled with intricate artworks and contraptions, this one-of-a-kind museum also gives its visitors a door to the Japanese animation studio’s whimsical universe.
But scoring a ticket is going to be a lot harder than you thought it was since the Ghibli museum only allows a limited number of visitors. So if you want to live out your Ghibli dreams, it’s advisable to book that ticket a month before your actual visit.
Luckily, you don’t have to wait any longer to get a glimpse of what’s inside this elusive museum. Since foreign and local tourists are currently restricted to their respective homes, the museum released a series of videos on its official YouTube channel.
Each video will take you to the different sections of the museum. The first clip (which was uploaded 3 weeks ago) will take its viewers to The Space of Wonder. It’s a small room that features a ceiling covered in fresco painting. If you look closely, you’ll spot some familiar characters like Kiki, Nausicaä, Satsuki, and Mei.
Apart from that, the following walkthrough videos also include a trip to Straw Hat Cafe that offers Ghibli-inspired meals like the bacon and eggs in Howl’s Moving Castle.
Last but not least is this 30-second video that focuses on these handcrafted stained glass doors, windows, and lamps. Viewers will surely marvel at the building’s main entrance that is adorned by colorful plants, flowers, and characters from My Neighbor Totoro.
Even though they’re stuck at home, Ghibli fans can still take a tour around the museum for free.
