The upcoming ‘female-centric’ Star Wars series sparks viewers’ speculations

The success of the Sci-Fi American movie Star Wars began in 1977 when George Lucas first released A New Hope to moviegoers. Its popularity continued to gain momentum over the years–conquering the mainstream media platforms with its own set of television series, video games, novels, and comic books. Its ongoing series The Mandalorian even made it to the top list of television shows when it premiered in 2019.

Aside from its current project, Disney Plus is said to be working on “a female-centric series that takes place in a different part of the Star Wars timeline than other projects”. Variety first reported that the series will be directed by Leslye Headland, who is the co-creator of the comedy-drama series, Russian Doll.

According to Deadline, Headland will develop the female-centered Star Wars series  “with martial arts elements and set in an alternate timeline from the usual Star Wars universe.” However, details on the plot have not yet been publicized.

There are speculations that the female-driven series might be associated with both the ongoing series of Obi-Wan Kenobi and the prequel of Rogue One’s Cassian Andor.

Some people, however, have frowned on the concept of this show after lead characters Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Finn (John Boyega) received controversial remarks from viewers. Kelly Marie Tran–who played Rose in the 2017 The Last Jedi film–was discriminated for her race and gender.

Despite these negative comments, we are excited to see what’s going to happen in this upcoming series!
