Due to the COVID-19 threat, pharmacies and other medical supply stores across the world have begun reporting severe face-mask shortage—especially in China, the world’s major manufacturer of surgical masks. Since it’s often sold out in stores and desperate times call for desperate measures, this woman from Sichuan, China, decided to improvise, adapt, and overcome.
According to Mail Online, the Chinese woman (known by surname He) showed up at a hospital in Luzhou while donning a full-body giraffe costume as a protective measure against the said virus. He told streaming app Pear Video, that she ran out of new surgical masks and needed to buy medicines for her parents.
While in costume, He usually takes this opportunity to get groceries, run errands, and conduct “virtual consultations” (with the help of a doctor) for her dad via video call. She also added that, aside from a giraffe costume, she also bought an alien outfit.
Although she’s fully covered, there’s no guarantee that she’s safe from getting the virus. Health-care workers still advise practicing good hygiene to prevent viral infections.
