Instead of asking for toys, 8-year-old girl gives 600 pounds of food to animal shelter on Christmas

An 8-year-old girl brought holiday cheer to dogs and cats when she donated 600 pounds of food to an animal shelter in Washington, United States, this Christmas season.

Instead of toys, Landyn Wadsworth wished for money as presents so she could buy enough food for the furry friends at the Tri-Cities Animal Shelter, as per ABC-affiliate WJLA last Wednesday, Dec. 25.

“Landyn’s wish for Christmas was food donations for the shelter and it looks like her wish came true!!” the shelter said on Facebook on Dec. 24.

“We are so grateful for your kindness and I’m sure the dogs and cats are too!!” it added.

The shelter accompanied its post with a photo of Landyn wearing a Santa hat beside a wagon filled with bags of cat and dog food.

Landyn’s mother, Alisha, also posted about the generous act on her own Facebook page.

“She donated over 600 [pounds] of quality food to the animal shelter,” Alisha said. “She wanted the animals taken care of and this will definitely help with that.”

Alisha stated in the report that this is not the first time Landyn has donated to the shelter. She said that the eight-year-old has been giving to the shelter since she visited them in 2016.

Seeing that the animals had no families to spend Christmas with, Landyn felt sad for them and decided to help out by donating.

According to the report, Landyn asks for money instead of toys every Christmas since she first went to the shelter. She would then spend the cash she receives for food and other items for the animals.

Alisha also pointed out that Landyn has already begun collecting funds for her gifts to the animals next holiday season.  /ra
