A kind child in Maryland, United States warmed people’s hearts when he gave up some of his trick-or-treat candies to put them in an empty bowl of a neighbor.
Leslie Hodges shared her young neighbor’s selfless act on Halloween, Oct. 31, on Facebook. “Caught this on our Nest camera,” she said. “[T]his has got to give hope to everyone that there are still amazing people in this world.”
The child was later on identified as Jackson Champagne, 8 years old, in a report by The Washington Post on Saturday, Nov. 2. In the video, Champagne could be seen going up the Hodges’ porch, expecting to get more treats.
“Oh no,” he could be heard saying to his aunt, “There ain’t no more candy.”
Champagne, who was dressed up as a vampire, was quick to think on his feet. Without hesitation, he took from his own candy bag and placed two handfuls of treats in the empty bowl.
“Aww. That was really nice, Jackson,” his aunt said.
Leslie Hodges said in the report that they left the bowl there because she had to take her 3-year-old daughter out for trick-or-treating, while her husband was at work. When the video got around the internet, Jackson’s parents reached out to the Hodges on social media.
The families intend to meet over the weekend so they could thank Jackson properly for his kindness by giving him a gift card.
When his father, Ty Champagne asked his son why he left his candies in the bowl, Jackson answered as per report, “For the kids after me.” JB
