5 Things we learned about ‘You’ stars Penn Badgley and Shay Mitchell

Since its debut on Netflix, the series “You” has been getting rave reviews from critics and viewers alike–earning them a whopping 90% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. And this success is all thanks to the show’s incredible production team and cast, which is composed of actors Penn Badgley, Elizabeth Lail, Shay Mitchell, and many more.

Although the series premiered on the streaming service last December 26, 2018, the show’s promotional tour isn’t over yet, as Filipino fans can get to see You stars Penn Badgley and Shay Mitchell in a special fan meeting event tomorrow, January 15, 2019.

But before Penn Badgley and Shay Mitchell meet their Filipino fans, they gave the press a few fun and interesting tidbits about themselves in a press conference. Here are some things we learned from the two Netflix stars earlier today:

Penn Badgley and Shay Mitchell enjoyed their first Filipino dish, the Halo-Halo.

When Penn Badgley and Shay Mitchell first approached the stage for their press conference, they were very eager to talk about experiences trying the famous Filipino Halo-Halo dessert.

Here’s what they had to say about the dish:

Penn Badgley and Shay Mitchell loved working with one another in the series.

Even though their characters were enemies in the series, both Penn Badgley and Shay Mitchell really enjoyed working with one another. Mitchell says she had fun sharing scenes with Badgley. And Badgley likens Halo-Halo to his work relationship with the actress.

“I like to work with Shay [Mitchell]. We work well together like Halo-Halo,” he explains.

Penn Badgley affirmed his stance that Joe is not a character that viewers should emulate.

Penn Badgley has recently gone viral on Twitter after he answered some fans’ requests to “kidnap them.” The actor reiterated to the press that though Joe may be charming, he is not someone to be emulated or idolized. And since he portrayed the character, he feels it is his responsibility to remind the public on the importance of not taking Joe’s persona too seriously.

“If we’re not careful, Joe can bring out the ‘Joe’ in us and we need to be careful of what we show [in the series],” Badgley adds.

Shay Mitchell also chimed in on the issue and advised viewers to be careful of what they deem to be “true” on social media. She adds, “the images you see [on social media] are highlight reels – they are the best parts of what you see in that person’s day. [and is, therefore, not reality].”

Penn Badgley and Shay Mitchell admitted to only liking certain aspects of the characters they portrayed.

For Penn Badgley, the only aspect he really liked about Joe is that he’s curious. Other than that, Badgley said he’s a “murderer” and that viewers should never look up to or romanticize him.

Shay Mitchell, likewise, agreed that there are only certain aspects of her character that she likes and for her, it’s mainly about how supportive she is about Beck (Elizabeth Lail).
