Actors and supporters of the film are dismayed by the restriction of Ang Pangarap Kong Holdap’s screening in local movie houses. In an Instagram post, Paolo Contis—who is one of the lead stars of the film—penned his disappointment over the decision.
The actor disclosed that the title, which is sending “bad connotation” to the public, is the reason why the film can’t get cinema slots.
“According to them, the movie is sending a bad connotation to the public because of its title (when our only intention is to entertain our audience and give a good laugh for less than 2 hours). This is our own way of making it light for the Filipino people. ‘We think what you’re doing is the REAL HOLDAP.'”
Meanwhile, LJ Reyes, who’s one of the supporters of the film, argued that it needs the same support as foreign movies.
She mentioned, “I just think it’s so ironic that we support foreign films orchestrating grand heists or films that just follows male-character-driven adventures, but cannot support our own just because of the title. How often have we said ‘DON’T JUDGE THE BOOK BY ITS COVER!’ but still we do every chance we get.'”
The actress further defended her opinion, saying that: “It may not be an ideal situation because it’s a fictional story created to make the audience laugh. It may resemble reality, but it is not reality. Just like the foreign films we all love and support. Let’s not forget it’s a comedy film not a documentary.”
Written and directed by commercial director Marius Talampas,”Ang Pangarap Kong Holdap”, also stars Jerald Napoles, Jelson Bay, and Pen Medina.
The film is scheduled to open in cinemas on November 28, 2018.
