One of the biggest nights in the music industry, the 67th annual Grammys Music Awards has laid down the red carpet and along with the list of artists set to receive the iconic gramophone trophy. Held at the Crypto.com Arena, on February 2, Los Angeles time, this year’s show sure looked promising for rising artists and industry veterans.
The show will be the first event held in the area since wildfires ravaged Los Angeles a few weeks back. Hence, Grammys previously announced that the live telecast will raise additional funds to support wildfire relief efforts and to honor the bravery of the responders.
Trevor Noah once again hosted the show for the fifth consecutive year. Nine time Grammy winner, Billie Eilish opened the night with ‘Birds of a Feather’ as a tribute to her hometown in L.A. featuring in her backdrop the serene landscape of the city. The camera also briefly panned to Taylor Swift and Margarette Qualley dancing along to the song.

Meanwhile, Sabrina Carpenter who dominated the music scene last year, finally deserves her first Mcdonald’s meal after having won her first Grammy for ‘Best Pop Vocal Album’ for ‘Short n’ Sweet’ with her hit single ‘Espresso’ snagged ‘Best Solo Performance.’ Carpenter was also one of the night’s performers with ‘Please, Please, Please’ and ‘Espresso,’ while sporting her bedazzled black and white suit and tore it off to reveal her iconic sparkling corset.

Your favorite artists’ favorite artist, Chapell Roan, bagged her first gramophone as ‘Best New Artist.’ Roan stunned the red carpet with her 22-year-old couture dress and her signature Midwest Princess-inspired makeup look. In her acceptance speech, Roan clamored for the rights of artists like her, a promise she had made to herself if she wins the Grammys, “I would demand that labels and the industry profiting millions of dollars off artists would offer a liveable wage and healthcare, especially to developing artists.”
It was burning red when Taylor Swift strutted through the night with her Vivienne Westwood red dress with a visible ‘T’ chain on her upper thigh. Swift as this year’s presenter had the honor to announce Beyoncé’s ‘Cowboy Carter’ as the ‘Best Country Album,’ who was the first woman of color to have won the award. During their moment, social media users felt deja vu, comparing the moment to the 2009 VMA awards, one that ignited the feud between Swift and Kanye West after the latter said Beyoncé deserves the award more.
Speaking of West, he and his wife, Biance Censori made a controversial red carpet entrance. Censori slowly stripped naked out of her fur coat, in an attempt to replicate West’s ‘Vultures 1’ album, which nonetheless shocked social media users and alerted local police, who eventually escorted them out of the event.
Panning back into the event, an emotional Doechii won her first Grammy as the ‘Best Rap Album’ for ‘Alligator Bites Never Heal.’ In celebration of this milestone, she dedicated the song to young women of color, “I wanna tell you, you can do it. Anything is possible. Don’t allow anybody to project any stereotypes on you.”
A Brat year that 2024 has been, Charlie XCX, bagged ‘Best Dance/Electronic Music Album’ for her the iconic neon green album ‘Brat.’ Whereas, SZA rightfully claimed ‘Best R&B Song’ for ‘Saturn.’
But what came as a surprise to guests was The Weeknd’s unexpected performance—who previously boycotted the Grammys annual ceremony since 2021 because of the alleged “secret committees” within the Academy. He nonetheless, delivered exceptional mashups of his tracks, ‘Hurry Up Tomorrow,’ ‘Cry for Me,’ and ‘Timeless.’

Staying true to the initial spirit and mission of the show, Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga, winners of ‘Best Pop Duo/Group Performance’ for ‘Die With a Smile’ summoned heartfelt emotions with their rendition of ‘California Dreamin,’ which was the Golden State’s official anthem.

With performances like these, the Grammys had truly brought with them the spirit of solidarity toward the victims and heroes of the L.A. wildfires.
