Miss Universe candidate Sandra Lim catches the attention of Filipinos with her national costume

Everyone had their eyes on the recent Miss Universe pageant but one particular contestant seems to have captured the attention of Filipinos.

Ms. Malaysia Sandra Lim showcased her national costume during the preliminary round of the competition donning a “Walinong Sari” attire derived from a Pahang folklore who was renowned for her beauty and fighting skills.

Instead of settling down and getting married for the sake of tradition, in the legend Puteri Walinong Sari chose to concentrate on developing her martial arts abilities and defending her kingdom.

Given her experience in martial arts, Lim has done a fantastic job embodying the character from the legend. 

The video of her national costume showcase has then caught the attention of Filipinos which led to several witty comments on social media.

One user wrote, “naku beh sinong kalaban mo [oh my, who’s your opponent].”

Another user wrote, “grabe atake ni freya [Freya’s attack is extreme].”

“This DIVA is a WARRIOR”, as written by a third user.

A fourth user wrote, “it’s giving kilalanin mo ang binabangga mo [It’s giving, know what you’re bumping into].”

A fifth user commented, “ung sinabihan ka ng ‘laban lang’ pero wala ka namang kaaway [when you are told to ‘just fight’ but you don’t have an enemy].”

Malaysia made up until the top 30 in the Miss Universe pageant held in Mexico City last November 17, ending their 53-year drought in the competition. 

This year’s pageant had the most number of contestants in the history of the event with a total of 125 countries taking part. 

Victoria Kjaer, the representative from Denmark, won the title of Miss Universe 2024. Nigeria came in second, followed by Mexico in third, Thailand in fourth, and Venezuela in fifth.
