Trigger warning: mentions of sexual assault, rape
The reason for Taeil’s departure from NCT has been made certain: aggravated quasi-rape.
On October 7, 2024, the Chosun Ilbo reported that Taeil was being investigated without detention on the charges of aggravated quasi-rape that he had allegedly committed with two of his acquaintances against a drunk woman. The news report stated that he was first investigated by Bangbae Police Station in Seoul, then transferred to the Seoul Central District Prosecutor’s Office on September 12th.
Taeil was first accused of sexual assault against an intoxicated woman in June, along with his two acquaintances who were confirmed to not be famous personalities. In mid-August, SM Entertainment and Taeil learned about the indictment, and on the 28th Taeil was first investigated.
On the 29th, news of Taeil’s leaving of NCT was first reported.
South Korean media used the term “aggravated quasi-rape” in reporting about Taeil’s crimes, which under South Korean law means that “a person possesses a weapon or two or more people act together to commit sexual intercourse with a person who is in a state of unconsciousness or incapable of resisting.”
Under Article 4, Paragraph 1 of the Special Act on Punishments in South Korean law, it is stated that if the charge was confirmed, Taeil and his acquaintances can be charged with at least 7 years in prison or life imprisonment.
NCTzens and K-pop fans were once again angered by the revelation of these details.

Taeil is a rotten disgusting man who deserves to be in hell, but until then that life imprisonment has to be handed to him.
How do you gangr*pe a drunken woman and then go back to fanmeets & idol activities? How do you live with yourself at night?

The audacity for Taeil to join the group's schedule after doing a crime is so fuckin ridiculous thing, I feel like I need a g*n now like what an actual fuck??!!! and now I've been wondering he had been doing this shit for a long time too, I need him to be punished in a cruel way.

SM sounds like a loser… What do you mean you discussed with Taeil and then he decided he should leave the group? You should've kicked him out regardless https://t.co/ygEnr34Cp3
