Since its founding in 1993, the University of the Philippines Civil Engineering Society (UPCES) has been a foundation of excellence within the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB). Dedicated to nurturing the next generation of civil engineers, UPCES has consistently produced honor graduates, top board exam performers, and esteemed professionals in the field. With over 100 current undergraduate members and a proud alumni network exceeding 700, the organization embodies its founding principles of contributing to the community and aiming high with noble and mighty goals.
This year, UPCES kicked off its 31st anniversary with an engaging Exhibit held from September 3 to 6, 2024. Themed with citylights, the exhibit showcased the organization’s enduring spirit of grit and perseverance and illustrated its vision of transforming the society into a metropolis of progress, inclusivity, and collective success. Set up at the Department of Engineering Science lobby, the exhibit offered passersby a glimpse into UPCES’ rich history and ongoing activities, capturing the essence of its goals and objectives.
As part of its anniversary celebration, UPCES will host the much-anticipated Open Tambayan on September 25, 2024. This annual event aims to strengthen community ties by providing meals for over 150 attendees on campus. This year’s tagline, “Embark on a Journey, Savor the Moments,” is not just about exploring new destinations, but embarking on a journey to get to know UPCES and the community it fosters, savoring each experience along the way.
Not only that, watch out for what’s about to take place on October 1, 2024: the thrilling quiz contest, PaTVayan, open to all UPLB students will be set in play. Participants will engage in a friendly competition centered around the popular Shonen Sports Anime series, *Haikyuu!!*, with the theme “Ultimate Challenge: Set Your Sights High and Rise to the Top!” Registration is currently open for interested contenders, anticipating a showdown for volleyball enthusiasts and anime fans alike.
