Liam Payne faces backlash over ‘misogynistic’ comment about girlfriend’s outfit

Liam Payne, former One Direction member, has sparked a heated debate with a seemingly offhand comment about his girlfriend, Kate Cassidy. The comment, made in a TikTok video posted by Cassidy, left fans both amused and outraged.

The controversy arose when his girlfriend shared a video of herself showcasing her chic, all-black outfit before heading out to a sushi dinner in England. As she proudly showed off her attire, which included a sleek set with gold open buttons, a Chanel bag, and Dior heels, Liam chimed in with a remark that has divided social media. “You look good. Nice and covered up for once,” Payne, 30, said with a straight face, seemingly joking.

While Cassidy smiled at the comment, many fans were less than impressed, labeling the remark as “misogynistic.” The video received numerous reactions, with comments like, “‘For once’ is actually insane…” and “Girl, blink twice if you’re in danger.”

Others expressed their disapproval more directly, saying, “They could never make me like you, Liam.”

Another user shared their opinion about the video in a tweet, “the audacity to say ‘nice and covered up for once’ when this is literally u,” accompanied by attached pictures of Liam showing skin.

Additionally, another user tweeted, “The way he didn’t even smile or anything he was deadass. This is absolutely terrifying, can’t believe Liam turned into such a prick. Really can’t overlook this because if he’s so comfortable saying something like this on camera what is he saying off camera??”

Meanwhile, Cassidy posted another TikTok video to clarify the situation surrounding Liam Payne’s comment. “I actually said to him while we were filming the video, ‘Oh, you should make a comment about how I’m actually dressed up for once,” she explained. “I don’t normally cover up too much. I’m 25, and I kind of just wear what I want. He doesn’t care at all what I wear.”

The couple first sparked romance rumors in October 2022 after being spotted at a party in London. They confirmed their relationship in December with a red carpet debut at the British Fashion Awards at London’s Royal Albert Hall. Cassidy, an influencer with 52.8K followers on TikTok, has shared many moments from their relationship online, sometimes humorously noting that she manifested their romance with a popsicle stick drawing of Liam.

The couple further solidified their connection in March 2023 when they attended the premiere of fellow One Direction member Louis Tomlinson’s documentary, “All of Those Voices.” Cassidy expressed her admiration for Tomlinson’s film and the shared experience with Payne in a heartfelt Instagram post, marking a significant moment in their relationship journey.
