A recent video posted by an attorney has ignited a heated debate online. The attorney criticized the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) for spending 150,000 pesos on a new logo, suggesting that AI could have created the logo for free in under a minute. In his video demonstration of AI’s logo-making capabilities, he sparked considerable discussion among social media users.
The response has been largely negative. Many users voiced their disapproval, with some arguing that the attorney’s comments overlook serious issues related to generative AI. One user commented, “As lawyer…. of all things wow you really have no idea the big issues with Generative AI and its billions of stolen stuff in its database…. that is not your work…. it’s just a mish mash of stolen stuff.”
The reaction from artists to the attorney’s comments has been one of frustration and disbelief. Many see the attorney’s dismissal of traditional design costs as an insult to graphic designers, “Wow. What an insult to the artists. Coming from a professional like you. What a shame.”
Another user expressed this sentiment saying, “Wow. That’s great! Now ask it to give you transparent files, svg files, editable source file and usage guide. Also, let it sign a document to secure its copyright- it’s his idea,right? It’s not stolen from any database. Also ask for mockups, patterns to be used in your website. Ask it to create a digital file with 72 ppi, and a printable file with 300 ppi. I would switch to AI too.”
Some also pointed out the irony of the situation, highlighting that as a lawyer, they should understand the importance of protecting intellectual property rights, “How ironic for a lawyer who should be protecting people’s rights and the copyright of their creations. Yes, AI offers incredible ease and versatility, but it’s important to remember that its purpose is to assist and enhance our work, not to replace the roles of others. While AI can simplify tasks, it should not overshadow or devalue human skills.
