K-pop fans react to HyunA and Yong Jun-hyung’s marriage announcement

TL;DR: K-pop fans are extremely unhappy and disappointed.

On July 8, 2024, a report from South Korean media outlet YTN stated that solo artist HyunA and Yong Jun-hyung would be tying the knot in October of this year made rounds on social media. At first, both sides were “still checking the truth,” until HyunA’s agency, AT AREA, confirmed the news.

“HyunA and Yong Jun-hyung, who have been a great source of comfort to each other during difficult times, have promised marriage. They will hold a wedding with close acquaintances in October and begin a new life.

We thank everyone who always shows warm support and ask for many blessings for the future of HyunA, who has made a significant decision both as an artist and as an individual.”

BLACK MADE, Yong Jun-hyung’s agency, also came out to confirm the reports.

“Yong Jun-hyung and HyunA, with deep affection and trust for each other, have decided to hold a wedding with close acquaintances this October. We would appreciate warm interest and blessings for Yong Jun-hyung as he embarks on a new chapter of his life as a married couple [with HyunA].”

HyunA and Yong Jun-hyung first went public about their relationship in January 2024. In a “lovestagram” post, HyunA asked fans to “Watch over us kindly,” and Yong Jun-hyung said, “We’re getting along well with positive energy from each other. We hope you’ll keep your eyes on us.”

This, however, drew in much disappointment from her fans and part of the general public. Yong Jun-hyung is infamously known for having been involved with Jung Joon-young, an idol who was one of the suspects in the Burning Sun Scandal.

With this marriage announcement, however, things have not changed for fans. In fact, the backlash towards HyunA has just increased and many K-pop fans expressed their distaste and disappointment towards her.

Fans also did not hesitate to mention DAWN, HyunA’s ex-boyfriend and fiancé.

HyunA and DAWN were considered to be K-Pop’s “power couple,” after the two of them left CUBE Entertainment following the announcement of their relationship in 2018. In February 2022, the (ex) couple announced their engagement, but a few months later in November, HyunA herself made public that she and DAWN had separated.
