K-pop star Ok Taecyeon dishes out on his BL debut with ‘Soul Mate’

K-pop star Ok Taecyeon is set to star in a new Japanese series starring opposite Hayato Isomura.

In a report made by Sports Chosun, Taecyeon was filming a J-drama entitled “Soul Mate”. This series revolves around a Japanese man, Ryu, and a Korean boxer, Jo Han. Over a decade, the two meet in Seoul, Berlin, and Tokyo and become closer as they heal each other’s wounds.

It has also been confirmed that Hayato Isomura will be starring alongside Taecyeon in this series. Isomura is a Japanese actor known for his roles in Alice in Borderland, Kamen Rider Heisei Generations: Dr. Pac-Man vs Ex-Aid & Ghost with Legend Rider, and Kamen Rider Ghost to name a few.

The series was initially described as “bromance” but it has been confirmed that it is going to be a BL J-drama.

Taecyeon has recently opened up about his BL drama debut with OSEN and said, “I’m extremely delighted to be appearing in ‘Soul Mate’. Because there were so many types of characters and genres that I hadn’t tried yet. I’d been waiting to gradually broaden my spectrum [as an actor] and discover new sides of myself, and right at that time, I received the offer to star in ‘Soul Mate.’”

He further explained what drew him to accept the part stating, “While I was reading the script, I was intrigued by the character of Hwang Johan, and even after I’d finished the script, Johan’s inner pain and struggles stayed with me for a long time, which is why I chose the project.”

The actor went through rigorous training in order to prepare for this role so that he can portray his character with sincerity. He hoped that the viewers would look forward to the drama.

Fans took to social media to share their excitement about the upcoming series.

“Soul Mate” is set to be released in 2025.
