Fans call out SM Entertainment for allegedly using AI images for Red Velvet’s comeback

Korean girl group Red Velvet dazzles the fans with their ethereal comeback photo teaser of their upcoming 7th mini-album release ‘Cosmic.’ On June 19, midnight KST, SM Entertainment released a set of teaser photos featuring solo and group photos of the girls that definitely highlights their unearthly beauty.

However, these newly released images have garnered divided reactions from Reveluvs, their fandom, with criticism directed at the heavy editing of most of the uploaded photos and the perceived use of artificial intelligence being too “lazy” and “cheap” for a major entertainment company in South Korea.

A fan replied under the posted teaser on Red Velvet’s official X account, saying, “please, let this be the last time you use AI for Red Velvet and all of your artists. you can do better than this, SM. stop being lazy, you’re a big company. have some shame.”

Another tweet from a non-fan called out the media handler of Red Velvet for ruining the creative artistry of the group by using AI for the background of the photos. They also pointed out the distorted parts of each photo that undermine “human creativity,” suggesting it devalues the brand and makes it appear as though little to no effort was put in by the management.

Fans said that it’s too AI generated that they would rather see the raw photos while one fan pointed out another angle by saying that because the concept of the comeback is “cosmic” hence the reason for some photos being unrealistic, “I feel like looking “unreal” is part of the concept tbh.”

Although these mixed reactions from fans are circulating within the fandom, demonstrating that everyone has their own preferences, they have not diminished the excitement for Red Velvet’s highly anticipated comeback. Their last comeback was in November last year, making this comeback even more special as it coincides with their 10th anniversary.
