Korean girl group Red Velvet dazzles the fans with their ethereal comeback photo teaser of their upcoming 7th mini-album release ‘Cosmic.’ On June 19, midnight KST, SM Entertainment released a set of teaser photos featuring solo and group photos of the girls that definitely highlights their unearthly beauty.
However, these newly released images have garnered divided reactions from Reveluvs, their fandom, with criticism directed at the heavy editing of most of the uploaded photos and the perceived use of artificial intelligence being too “lazy” and “cheap” for a major entertainment company in South Korea.
A fan replied under the posted teaser on Red Velvet’s official X account, saying, “please, let this be the last time you use AI for Red Velvet and all of your artists. you can do better than this, SM. stop being lazy, you’re a big company. have some shame.”
I've been holding this in but this shit is infuriating.
Using ai for a group that runs on creativity like Red Velvet is the biggest spit in the face sm can give.
And if you think 'it doesnt matter as long as we get music/ stop with the negativity' you have rocks for brains

Another tweet from a non-fan called out the media handler of Red Velvet for ruining the creative artistry of the group by using AI for the background of the photos. They also pointed out the distorted parts of each photo that undermine “human creativity,” suggesting it devalues the brand and makes it appear as though little to no effort was put in by the management.
Red Velvet's newest concept photos contain AI generated backgrounds. Revleuvs, I'm not part of your fandom, but I value artistic integrity and human creativity. Please don't stay silent on this. pic.twitter.com/cL8WxzkutD

Honestly what the hell is happening with creative direction for this red velvet comeback. This is so cheap and NOT grand for a 10 year anniversary comeback. They are literally using the exact same ai background for all teasers #SM_TRY_BETTER pic.twitter.com/Bt0viaTpBT

Some of the AI mistakes I found in the background of the Red Velvet concept photos:
-rainbow glare that ends randomly
-car with odd bumps in the design
-letters that make no sense
-uneven fence arches pic.twitter.com/BDABePx1Nl— M ☽ ☽ N ¹² (@cloouriibit) June 11, 2024
red velvet dont deserve those ai generated backgrounds istg center 3 when i catch u 😭

bro the editing, use of AI and green screen….this is Red Velvet’s 10th anniversary album like SM just destroyed 10 years of creativity in artistry from Red Velvet im so mad https://t.co/59nYxETqv9 pic.twitter.com/g4STQrEsFj

SM’s refusal to let Red Velvet go outside needs to be studied because you had to ai generate a FLOWER FIELD???? You really couldn’t just go outside..????? https://t.co/kvVPPKOAUH

Fans said that it’s too AI generated that they would rather see the raw photos while one fan pointed out another angle by saying that because the concept of the comeback is “cosmic” hence the reason for some photos being unrealistic, “I feel like looking “unreal” is part of the concept tbh.”
Although these mixed reactions from fans are circulating within the fandom, demonstrating that everyone has their own preferences, they have not diminished the excitement for Red Velvet’s highly anticipated comeback. Their last comeback was in November last year, making this comeback even more special as it coincides with their 10th anniversary.
