WayV’s filled with love in their latest album, ‘Give Me That’

WayV’s back, and will definitely be here to stay on all of our radars.

On June 3, 2024 at 6 P.M. KST, NCT’s Chinese sub-unit made their comeback with their 5th EP, ‘Give Me That’. This is their first release 7 months since their 2nd studio album, ‘On My Youth.’

The comeback also marks the group’s return as a quintet, as member Winwin could not participate due to “scheduling conflicts.”

The mini album includes six tracks—“She A Wolf,” “Might As Well,” “New Ride,” “Don’t Get Mad,” and the Korean and Chinese versions of the title track, “Give Me That.”

A track video for the song “New Ride” was released prior to the EP’s release, and the song was described as a “refreshing R&B pop song with an 808 bass, guitar riffs, soft keyboards and synthesizers”. The lyrics of the song were also said to be about the “excitement of going for a drive under the moonlight with a loved one.”

In a press conference held hours before WayV’s newest record was unveiled, the WayV members revealed that the key theme of their comeback and album was love. Member Ten said, “If you look at the teaser tracks, there are a lot of hearts.”

The title track, “Give Me That” is a “pop dance song with an addictive melody and brass sounds over an old school funk beat” with lyrics about a first-ever love confession. Commenting about how they recorded the track, member Hendery said, “There are a lot of chants in the song…We recorded many takes for it, making ‘Give Me That’ very entertaining.”

Member Xiaojun also remarked on their difficulties with the Korean language. “We do have some difficulties with our Korean…But our amateurish Korean actually helps us use simpler expressions, giving us an advantage on communicating with our fans.”

Member Ten also said that it was his goal to make as much people listen to WayV’s diverse identity as a group.

The music video for “Give Me That” sees the WayV members, sans Winwin, decked as different characters such as a cowboy, dancer, rapper, basketball player, etc., who were waiting in line for an audition and were showing as much as they can as the time counts down.

WayZenNies were totally all over WayV’s concept, as usual. They have even called WayV’s serve as what we now know as, “boyband excellence.”

WayZenNies were right—WayV is literally boyband excellence. Nobody’s touching them for this one.
