In her latest post on X (formerly Twitter), Rowena Guanzon questioned the host for the prestigious Miss Universe competition and wrote, “Sino ba yong male emcee sa Ms. Universe Philippines na sigaw [nang] sigaw ? Dont hire him again. Nakakainis ang boses [Who was that male emcee at Miss Universe Philippines who kept shouting? Don’t hire him again. His voice is annoying.]”

Guanzon is a known lawyer, public servant, and politician and was the former Mayor of Cadiz from 1986 to 1992. She was part of the P3PWD Party List or also known as The Komunidad ng Pamilya Pasyente at Persons with Disabilities.
With her recent statement, social media users were enraged.
After learning that the host was in fact Alden Richards, she tweeted, “Oh si Alden pala yon [Oh was that Alden]? I am a Kathryn Bernardo fan and enjoyed Hello love goodbye.”

She then tweeted that she was actually referring to the person in white, and not Alden Richards, which angered some social media users even more, saying her statement was misleading.

She then reacted to the backlash she received from Filipino social media users.
The intense reactions to the whole controversy prove that statements from a public figure can be highly provocative.
Alden Richards has not reacted so far to this incident.
